The Sheffield Brook improvements are comprised of two separately permitted projects, one designated as Upper Sheffield Brook and the second as Lower Sheffield Brook. Although bifurcated, it is managed as one common project. The Sheffield Brook lower section improvements will need to be installed concurrently with the upper section improvements.
Upper Project
Design documents are complete, with the final stages of land entitlements & permitting in process. The planned start is September 2016.
Lower Project
Concept design discussions are underway and include land entitlements, culvert sizing, discharge locations, shoaling projections, flood plain impact projections, and annual maintenance expenses associated with each alternate design concept. Each different design scenario has its own cost ratios, flood risk analysis, & annual maintenance cost impacts for OLS & OCB Associations. Each alternative improvement will require some systems maintenance.
Recently, a specialty civil engineering firm with drainage discharge and tidal locations experience has been hired to aid in the design of the lower elevation sections of Sheffield Brook. OLSBA will rely on the firm’s expertise on design matters.
Each alternative concept design discussion will address mitigating historical area flooding caused by Sheffield Brook with focus on initial project costs, budget, and potential annual maintenance cost impacts for each Beach Association.
Planned start for the project is September 2016.
